The Sandton Convention Centre is Southern Africa's international leading and most prestigious, multi-purpose exhibition and convention centre. Situated in the heart of Africa's richest square mile, this twelve-storey structure is designed and built to provide 22 000 m² of convention, exhibition and special event space over five main levels - certainly a facility worthy of the title.
With a reputation of being South Africa's most technologically advanced convention centre and scooping the Favourite Technical Venue award for 3 consecutive years, it is only fitting that the quality of technical equipment provided match these standards. Sandton Convention Centre offers this technology; namely event equipment, technical and logistical support through one of the Gearhouse companies, INHOUSE Venue Technical Management (IVTM). Initially pioneered by Gearhouse South Africa, the outsourced technical management service came into operation as Gearhouse Venue Technical Management services, but when demand far outstripped expectation the service evolved into a standalone company. As of 1 April, Gearhouse is proud to announce that IVTM has officially taken over the reins at the SCC in facilitating all technical requirements, staffing and support services needed for superior conferencing and event management.
May has seen the addition of a number of both experienced and new talent to the IVTM SCC team. Heading this influx of "new blood" is Sharné Pelser who will be taking over from Ryan Kinman as Venue Technical Manager, effective 1 August.
Sharné has over 10 years experience in the events and entertainment industry and has a wealth of knowledge in all areas pertaining to equipment, setups, crew scheduling, reports, dry hires, admin and on site interactions amongst other things. She boasts a number a qualifications including diplomas in marketing management, events management and accounts.
"This industry is in my blood" says Sharné who loves the adrenalin aspect of her job and the satisfaction experienced after a successful event. "At the Sandton Convention Centre, there is an array of opportunities to contribute to a number of different events on a daily basis". As a former project manager, her skills in integrating her audio background with challenging large-scale AV certainly come in handy in a venue such as this.
She is assisted by Louis Swanepoel, the Operations Manager for IVTM SCC. Louis studied Performing Arts technology at Pretoria Technikon which has served as a solid base for a fantastic career thus far. His accomplishments include touring with the "Cats" Production team in Malaysia and Lebanon, working as part of the team that first installed digital cinema in Ster Kinekor and Nu Metro Theatres nationwide and running a number of high profile film festivals in Cape Town. He joined Gearhouse in 2008 as Project Manager and has been a part of the IVTM team at SCC since June 2009.
Other members of the team include Rita Mlahleki who will be moving from a sales administration position to take over operations control. She has been with Gearhouse since 2008. Taking over the Sales Administrator position are Helena Antoniades and Somikazi Mangxongxoza.
This dynamic team, although new, have already participated in a number of successful events including the recent sponsoring of the TPSA awards. "My thanks to your team who as always hold the Gearhouse name high with the standard of the service that is delivered and were such a pleasure to work with!" (Tiffany Reed- TPSA Admin)
The team is looking forward to assisting SCC in hosting the International Paediatric Association Congress in August 2010 as well as INCOSAI in November. Both high-profile congresses will also help solidify IVTM's reputation as the pinnacle of SCC outsourced partnerships.
